"Quinta de la Rosa's Finest Reserve Port is a stunning example of what can be achieved and found in non-vintage port blends. This small port lodge has turned out a terrific, full-bodied, garnet/ruby-colored wine with a big, chocolatey, black-cherry, cedary nose, full-bodied, unctuously-textured flavors, and gobs of fruit and richness, as well as an off-dry, impressive finish. Drink it over the next decade or more." (WA)

Winery Notes:
Finest Reserve: deep garnet with pale brick rim; nose of caramel, dried herbs, and earthy black fruit. Palate is full and dryish, with some tannin and layers of ripe fruit. Great harmony, pleasant earthy finish.

The Bergqvist family, owners of Quinta de la Rosa, have been involved in the Port trade since 1805. Today it is Tim Bergqvist and his daughter Sophia who run this beautifully situated Grade "A" Quinta on the right bank of the Douro near Pinhao. La Rosa was one of the first producers to mature all their Port at their Quinta and ship direct from the property to the world markets. The vineyards rise steeply behind the lodge on well exposed south facing slopes. Excellent Douro table wines are also made at La Rosa (qv) from the traditional varieties of the region, but Port production remains important to the estate. The Ports are made in the traditional manner with treading in open granite lagares, and skilled young winemaker Jorge Moreiro is proving himself to be equally adept at portmaking.
