WHAT A BARGAIN!!...50% Macabeo, 35% Parellada, 15% Xarel-lo

"There's a savory edge to the apple pastry, ginger and almond cream flavors in this well-cut and focused cava. The mouthwatering finish is tinged with smoke and nut notes. Drink now through 2015. 300,000 cases made. " (WS)

"Other Cava values under $25. Recommended and tasted, but no tasting note given." (WA)

"($10) Light, bright gold with a slow, fine bead. Pungent aromas of dried flowers, smoky herbs, orange peel and apple. Very complex for the price, offering round orchard and pit fruit flavors and bracingly bitter citrus pith. Finishes on a gently sweet note, with repeating notes of flowers and orange. This can be had for as little as $7 in some markets, which must make it the best sparkling wine value around." (VM)

"A little funky with pancake dough and mousy notes. Slightly aggressive bubbles and not altogether balanced. Drink now." (JS)

"Cristalino is always a solid go-to Cava. This brut is round, slightly yeasty and shows citrus aromas that veer toward lemon-lime. The palate is healthy and clean, with a narrow set of citrus and apple flavors. Fairly full and long on the finish, which makes the whole package more than worthwhile given the cost." (WE)

"If you’re anything like me, you love to serve wine to guests, but unless they are real “wine people” you don’t want to break the bank. Such was the case recently when my wife was hosting a wedding shower and her loving husband (your’s truly) was tasked with acquiring the libations for the event. No self-respecting wine guy would serve Asti Spumante to guests no matter how elementary their wine knowledge, so you know I did the research. After all, I was later announced as Mason “The Wino” Hewitt at the wedding reception!

Whether it’s a bridal shower, Thanksgiving or just plain Tuesday, everyone’s budget bubbly should be Cristalino Brut Cava. At $5.99 per bottle, you can afford to have a case of this sitting around for whatever occasion might arise. The reviews from the wedding shower were so good, I decided to pick up a bottle for myself. I brought it to our local BYOB Thai restaurant (I also BYO’d Champagne flutes), and it was a perfect match. This Cava is very dry and crisp with the focus of a wine 5x this price.

The wine writers agree, having awarded Cristalino Brut Cava between 86 and 88 points, high praise indeed for a $6 wine. As a point of reference, check out the scores on your favorite entry level ($30) Champagne. Almost all are in this range. International Wine Cellar went so far as to say this “must be the best sparkling wine value around”. Add to that our special $25 case shipping deal and you can get 12 bottles for $96.88. I’ll raise a glass to that!" (Nickel and Dime)
