"A firm version, with an airy mousse and a light toast to flavors of black currant, oyster shell, lemon zest and sliced almond, backed by vibrant acidity. Lingers on the creamy finish. Disgorged July 2015. Drink now through 2019. 455 cases imported.–AN " (WS)

"Disgorged in November 2018, the new release of Gonet-Medeville's NV Brut Premier Cru Tradition is showing very well after a year on cork, offering up an expressive bouquet of honeyed peach, oatmeal, Meyer lemon and subtle hints of the nutty complexity to come with further aging. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, fleshy and generous, with terrific concentration, racy acids and a pinpoint mousse. Not only is this an excellent Champagne, but it's a remarkably good value, too." (WA)

"(roughly 70% chardonnay, 25% pinot noir and 5% pinot meunier; L02.13): Pale onion skin color. Spicy, floral citrus fruits and redcurrant on the incisive nose. Sharply delineated blood orange and bitter red berry skin flavors are complemented by notes of white pepper and mace, with a hint of smokiness in the background. Closes dry and tight, with echoing spiciness and very good persistence." (VM)

"This clearly has older stocks in it as there those wonderfully complex aromas of brioche, yeast and citrus with a background nuance of apple cider. There is equally good complexity to the utterly delicious flavors that retain a lovely sense of energy as the supporting mousse is firm but not so much as to detract from the depth of the dry but not austere finish. If there is a nit, and it's really just a nit, this is not a Champagne of finesse but it's rare to find this kind of complexity in anything south of $100 the bottle. Highly recommended for those enjoy aged, but very importantly, not overtly oxidative aromas and flavors." (BH)

Winery Notes:
Julie and Xavier Gonet-Médeville are, in many ways, the first couple of French wines. Both hail from storied winemaking families: Julie's family is famous for its incomparable Chateau Gilette, and Xavier comes from a long line of Champagne growers in Le Mesnil. Leading a new generation of winemakers, they bring their family knowledge, methods and passion to the many wines they now make together. In 2000, when his family's plots were being divided, Xavier opted for a modest collection of the highest quality 1er and Grand Cru vineyards with a goal of producing only the most exquisite, small-production Champagnes. Champagne Gonet-Médeville's Pinot Noir (Bisseuil and Ambonnay) and Chardonnay (Mesnil-Sur-Oger) are farmed organically, and each parcel is vinified separately to emphasize its individual terroir. There is no malolactic fermentation, and dosage is minute. Julie and Xavier's resulting Champagnes are very elegant, delicate, festive and easy to drink.
