"Focused, with zesty acidity backing the vibrant cherry and raspberry flavors. Forest floor notes show midpalate, lingering into the savory finish. Drink now through 2023. 1,400 cases made. -KM" (WS)

"A creamy, soft pinot with strawberry, chocolate and light coffee. Some toffee undertones. Medium to full body. Subtle and balanced for the area. Drink or hold." (JS)

"Moving to the Pinot Noirs, the 2018 Pinot Noir Le Russe comes from a mix of vineyards in the Russian River and was 50% destemmed and brought up 75% new oak. Spiced cherries, underbrush, dried herbs, and loamy earth notes are followed by a medium-bodied red with nicely integrated stem notes, plenty of sweet fruit, and a good finish." (JD)

"Donald Patz's blend of several sites and clones within the appellation, this hearty red is beautifully layered and complex. Wild strawberry, rhubarb, dried herb and black tea give it varietal distinction amidst an underlying tension of acidity. Thick tannin and oak weight contribute power. -Virginie Boone" (WE)

Winery Notes:
This is the name (meaning “Russian”) of our Russian River Valley Pinot Noir blend of vineyards. The 2018 is a combination of Martaella Vineyard, Browne and Martinelli River Road-There are multiple clones involved – Pommard from Goff, Martini 13 and Dijon clones 115 and 828 from Monte Cristo.

Each vineyard varied somewhat but overall the fermentation lots included about 1/2 whole cluster; regularly punched down and basket pressed at dryness. The newly fermented wine was placed into small French Oak barrels with 75% being new and 25% being once-used (white) French Oak barrels. Now it is showing a lot of Pinot Noir “perfume” as well as interesting fresh raspberry, cola and cherry notes. Sleek and aromatic I’d love to try this wine with 10-15 years of bottle age.
