"Wow. This has such attractively pure fruit with flinty nuances, across ripe peaches, nectarines and grapefruit. The off-dry palate has a flinty and gently smoky edge with a very fresh, concentrated core of ripe white peaches. So powerful and long. Drink or hold." (JS)

"In this wine, a flash of freshly cut Williams pear shows befor the nose closes down again. The palate reveals gentle, rounded fruit and the kind of concentration that turns into elegance rather than power. With plenty of energy at the core, sun-ripened and upright, the wine remains finely chiseled. A freshness uncommon for 2018 pervades the pear notes and lets this shine. Drink by 2040. -Anne Krebiehl MW " (WE)

Winery Notes:
Cuvée Ste. Catherine was created in 1984 before the accession of the Grand Cru system in Alsace. This was a challenging vintage with a cool, wet summer and the Riesling grapes were not ripe at all in September. Luckily, Alsace was blessed with a beautiful Indian summer and the last Rieslings from Schlossberg were picked on November 25th, Ste. Catherine’s Day. This Pinot Gris comes from the lower part of the Grand Cru Schlossberg vineyard as well as the Clos des Capuchins. It is the driest of the Pinot Gris range and is rich, spicy, and gentle.
