"The 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Fourneaux has turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with notes of citrus oil, fresh peach, beeswax and subtle hints of oyster shell. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's bright and precise, with a nicely concentrated core of fruit, racy acids and a long, penetrating finish." (WA)

"The 2018 Chablis Les Fourneaux 1er Cru is one of the more voluptuous wines in this range. Lemon confit, almond, and dried flowers are some of the nuances that build in a Chablis that offers quite bit of creamy resonance but plenty of energy as well. I imagine it will drink well with minimal cellaring." (VM)

"A notably ripe yet still agreeably fresh nose combines notes of mineral reduction and white orchard fruit with those of acacia and citrus. Yet again there is excellent power and volume to the energetic flavors that, atypically, are actually finer than those of the Vaillons. There is a touch of backend warmth but overall, this tension-filled effort is really quite promising." (BH)

Winery Notes:
PROFILE:
Part of an esteemed Chablis family, Samuel Billaud struck out on his own in 2009 to found his eponymous domaine. He had previously been the winemaker at Domaine Billaud-Simon, which had been a shining light in the old school Chablis clubhouse of quality. Since the creation of his own label, Samuel has met with great success and moved into a new winery space in 2015 as well as purchasing four hectares of vines that had previously belonged to Domaine Billaud-Simon. The resulting range, from AC to Grand Cru, are layered wines rife with crunchy oyster shell and silex, and exhibit a range of flavor profiles from licorice to white peach to toasty baguette. This is top quality Chablis from a rising star producer – for white Burgundy lovers, these are not to be missed.
