"Always one of Tavel's best bottlings, Mordorée's 2018 Tavel La Reine des Bois is a bit less ripe and impressive than previous vintages, but it's still excellent. Hints of crushed stone accent red currant and grapefruit aromas, while the medium to full-bodied palate is smooth, silky and intense, finishing on a peppery note.

Under the leadership of young (20-something) Ambre Delorme, this historic Tavel estate continues to turn out a wide range of exemplary wines. Crop yields were down 40% in 2018 compared to the already limited yields in 2017, said Delorme, but she seems committed to staying the course. "Our idea is to take the best grapes at the best maturity, even if we lose quantity," she said. "Each year is very particular, so we have to adjust, but always with the same goal."" (WA)

"Vivid orange-pink. Deep-pitched cherry, red berry and lavender aromas, along with suggestions of blood orange and garrigue. Stains the palate with concentrated, mineral-tinged raspberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors that show sharp delineation and spicy lift. In a distinctly powerful style but in no way lacking for finesse, delivering strong, red-fruit-driven thrust on an impressively long, mineral-tinged finish." (VM)

"A deep expression from Tavel, this has rich raspberry and red-cherry flavors. Delivered fresh and dry. From organically grown grapes. Drink now." (JS)

"The flagship rosé is the 2018 Tavel Cuvée De La Reine Des Bois. Which has a classic Tavel deep ruby color as well as a juicy nose of candied cherries, strawberries, exotic flowers, and spice. A full-bodied, deep, rich, layered rosé, it has a beautiful texture, no hard edges, the classic power and richness of Tavel, and a clean, crisp finish. This is a food rosé all the way and a brilliant effort." (JD)
