"The 2018 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru comes from 3.1ha of 35-year-old vines and sees 8–15 months in stainless steel. The nose is quite distinctive, one that I would not immediately place in Chablis – quite phenolic, with wet wool and damp straw notes, not unlike a Chenin Blanc with a bit of age. The palate is a little spicy on the entry, offering notes of mango and passion fruit and a sweet, figgy finish. I actually enjoy this Chablis, even if it doesn’t resemble one. " (VM)

"A markedly more floral-suffused nose reflects notes of white pepper, pear and oyster shell. The tighter and more precise middle weight flavors exude more evident minerality on the notably drier and more complex finale. This is really quite good and a wine that should drink well young as well as with 3 to 5 years of bottle age." (BH)
