"The 2017 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is pale to medium ruby with a lovely Cran Apple, blueberry and warm black berries-scented nose with notions of nutmeg, potpourri and dusty earth. It's medium-bodied and spicy in the mouth with very soft, grainy tannins, juicy acidity and a long, nuanced finish. 1,988 cases produced."(WA)

"The 2017 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is another pretty appellation-level wine in the lineup. Crushed flowers, mint, sweet red berry fruit and white pepper all give the 2017 an attractive upper register to play off the wine's mid-weight structure. I very much like the understated energy here." (VM)

"Ripe, rich and fruity though it may be, Williams Selyem's Sonoma Coast Pinot comes up a touch short on layering and range, and it stands out as being one of the more obvious in the winery's line-up of 2017s. It is undeniably tasty and tips slightly to weighty richness in feel with a sudden spark of late-arriving brightening its finish, and it is likely to be at its best with but a couple of years of cellaring. "1. 2017 Williams Selyem, Sonoma Coast ($55) – Mediumlight to medium ruby color; attractive, deep, fragrant, dark cherry, raspberry, and cranberry fruit aroma with hints of cinnamon, clove, dried herbs, orange peel, and forest floor; medium-full body; elegantly styled, nicely balanced, dark cherry and red berry fruit flavors with good depth, a hint of cocoa, and a silky mouthfeel; medium tannin; lingering aftertaste. Very enjoyable and ready to drink now as it developed some complexity with airing in the glass. Very highly recommended. 14.2% alcohol; 1,988 cases; 100% Pinot Noir (PN); released April 2019. (Group Score: 16.7 of 20 points, 2 of 7 first-place votes/2 seconds/3 thirds; My Score: 17 [91 of 100 points], third place)" (CGV)

Winemaker Notes:
Dark cherry aromas and notes of pomegranate are evident at first nosing. Beneath the primary fruit character are hints of smoky herbs, dried citrus peel, and wood spices. Very dense on the palate, the wine offers robust tannins and a sense of opulence. Dark cherry and pomegranate are echoed in the flavors with a subtle lift of citrus peel in the middle palate while the wine finishes with wonderful hints of Brazilian coffee.
