"The 2017 Moscato d'Asti is especially bright and fruity in this extremely hot and dry vintage. You feel that extra concentration of fruit with summer peach, honeysuckle, star jasmine and yellow rose. Moscato d'Asti traditionally offers a foamy and creamy bubble quality, and you get that here in generous supply. The creaminess of the mouthfeel plus that sweet residual sugar find excellent balance. The alcohol is 6%. This is a leading wine of the appellation. Moscato d'Asti is best when consumed immediately, but you could push this wine a few years more.

Paolo Saracco was kind enough to send me older vintages of his two sparkling Moscatos so I could judge how they perform over time. Some of the samples arrived in magnum (with a cork and a bottle cap closure) and others came in the traditional 750-milliliter pressurized cork bottle. I can't say that this experiment was very successful, or that it otherwise changed my mindset when it comes to the drinking window of Moscato d'Asti. Given the samples tasted here, I would not extend that window to more than seven years. This impression is based on the very small snapshot you see detailed in this report—keeping in mind also that Paolo Saracco is a first-rate producer in his appellation. Indeed, he is one of the very best. Ultimately, the wine's freshness is linked to how much or how little CO2 remains intact in the bottle. The double seal (cork and bottle cap) did not necessarily help, based on these results. " (WA)

"Bright golden straw-yellow. Perfumed aromas of white peach, orange blossom, lime cordial, sage and jasmine. Boasts excellent energy and grip to the flavors of fresh pomaceous orchard fruit and sweet spices. Finishes very long and bright, with strong hints of fresh citrus fruit and vanilla cream. A very successful 2017 Moscato d’Asti in what was a hot year, and a benchmark example of what Paolo Saracco can achieve with this variety. For my money, this estate is the DRC of Moscato d’Asti." "Incredible depth and richness, yet so layered and beautiful. Light, creamy texture. Medium body, light sweetness and a crisp, fruity finish. Drink now." (JS)

"This fragrant, foaming sparkler boasts heady scents of yellow stone fruit and crushed herb. Mirroring the nose, the savory mouthwatering palate doles out juicy apricot, ripe yellow peach and sage. Fresh acidity and a creamy mousse provide freshness and finesse." (WE)

Winery Notes:
The village of Castiglione Tinella, where the Saracco winery is located, is between two of the most well-known Piedmontese towns for great wine and food: Alba and Santo Stefano Belbo. Luigi Saracco, the great-grandfather of Paolo, began growing Moscato grapes here in the early 1900s. Paolo Saracco grew up in the vineyards and even at an early age he had a desire to make a wine using his family’s name. Upon completion of his enological studies, he began experimenting not only with new winemaking techniques, but also a more modern vineyard management style.

Lightly sparkling aromatic wine. Aromas of peach, apricot, lemon peel and white flowers. Complex, good body with balance between sweetness and acidity, nice persistency.
