"The 2017 Bien Bien Chardonnay is shy on the nose, with a rocky mineral character fleshing out to honey toast, hazelnut, lemon pith and earthy notions of button mushroom and dried hay. Medium-bodied, it's creamy in the mouth with citrus and earthy flavors, tangy acidity and a long finish." (WA)

"The 2017 Chardonnay Bien Bien is ample, creamy and expressive, with a striking interplay of richness and vibrancy that is such a hallmark of the older parcels at Bien Nacido. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and orchard fruit all open with air, but, as always, it is the wine's viscous texture that stands out most. This is such a pretty and engaging Chardonnay." (VM)

"Lastly, the 2017 Chardonnay Bien Bien comes from a great vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley and spent 15 months in 20% new French oak. It's another richer, balanced wine from this estate that has lots of stone and orchard fruits as well as hints of caramelized orange zest, toasted bread, and salty minerality. Impressively textured, rounded, and balanced on the palate, with both concentration and acidity, it's another classic Chardonnay that's going to keep for a decade.

I loved these latest releases from winemaker James Sparks, and he releases a five separate Chardonnays and four Pinot Noirs. These all have individual characters with the common thread being high quality, balanced wines." (JD)
