"This is a pure expression of Sangiovese that punches above its weight with an almost Brunello-like intensity. The color and the tannic weight here is more prominent than in most Sangioveses, however, that unique coastal Tuscany character is always there with rosemary and Mediterranean shrub. Dark and fully concentrated, the 2017 Poggio Valente offers chalky notes followed by blackberry and black cherry. I love the harmony and the seamless nature of the bouquet. There is a note of sweetness on the close. This is a terrific, medium to full bodied Sangiovese."(WA)

Wine Description:
The Poggio Valente vineyard-planted with four different clones of Sangiovese-represents Elisabetta Geppetti’s commitment to the Sangiovese grape. A small amount of Merlot is blended to add body and a lush character to this cru wine.

Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby red in color with purple hues. The nose has concentrated aromas of red and black cherries, blackberries, licorice, vanilla, and hints of sage and violets. The palate is rich and plush with delicious dark berry and vanilla flavors with ripe tannins and a pleasantly savory finish.

Food pairing:
This wine is the perfect match for a local specialty-cinghiale alla maremmana in umido or wild boar stew.
