"From the first sniff on the nose, you can tell that the 2017 Fleurfontein has that "wow factor." Jumping out of the glass, there are aromas of rich and sticky stone fruits, with an essence of dried pineapple and golden raisin plus an intense floral bouquet. The palate is lusciously sweet with a focus on floral and tropical fruit tones. The finish is long and lively with a fresh, clean dried apricot flavor. Yum! This wine was created by twisting the stems of the bunches over a one- to two-month period, destroying the water and nutrient pathways to the grapes so that they shrivel and dry naturally on the vine. 2,400 bottles were made of this sweet and delicious wine.

Keermont Vineyards winemaker Alex Starey and I hopped in his SUV and trekked up the hill to look at his vineyards tucked neatly into the corner of Stellenbosch, where he pointed out his Syrah vines for the Steepside and Topside vineyard designates, which are located at about the same elevation on opposing slopes. The range of Keermont represents good quality with something for everyone." (WA)

"The 2017 Fleurfontein is pure Sauvignon Blanc, vine-dried (whereby the stems are pinched), fermented by indigenous yeast in Hungarian and French oak barrels and left to mature for 18 months in 50% new oak. There is around 230g/L residual sugar. The nose offers attractive acacia honey, fig and quince aromas. The palate is very pure and viscous, featuring plenty of mandarin, tangerine, apricot and fig notes, but crucially, there is a fine bead of acidity that maintains tension and race all the way through to the finish. Excellent." (VM)

Winery Notes:
The KEERMONT FLEURFONTEIN (‘flower fountain’) derives its name from a beautiful spring on the farm near the Sauvignon Blanc vineyard from which the grapes are sourced. The wine is produced by pinching the stems of the grape bunches while they ripen on the vine. This stops the translocation of fluids into and out of the grapes and allows them to dry naturally. The raisons are harvested a few weeks later and the syrupy juice is squeezed from them with a hard pressing process. The syrup is fermented in Hungarian oak barrels by indigenous yeast and is left to mature for 18 months. Total production of Keermont Fleurfontein 2015 was 2400 bottles. All grapes used in producing this wine were grown on Keermont Vineyards and bottling was carried out by hand without filtration in our winery.

Tasting notes:
Pure yellow gold in color, Fleurfontein exudes vibrant aromas of cut grass, dried apricot, and soft citrus. The palate is full and voluptuous with concentrated flavors of honey, pear, citrus, and almond. A central core of acidity and a hint of new oak give the wine a long complex and focussed finish. Drink now through to 2030.
