"Well-structured, with firm tannins supporting the deep, rich boysenberry and spice flavors. Intense dark chocolate notes linger on the pure-tasting finish, revealing slate and dried herbal accents. Drink now through 2024. 21,000 cases made, 6,000 cases imported. -KM" (WS)

"Bright ruby-red. Aromas of black fruits, bitter chocolate, violet, licorice and cola spices. Juicy, spicy, fine-grained wine with good herbal energy and restrained sweetness to its dark berry and espresso flavors. Plenty of oak here as well but this shapely midweight has more supporting material. Finishes classically dry and spicy, in need of a bit more pliancy. (aged in one-third new, one-third second-use and one-third third-use French oak barrels for 12 months)" (VM)

"Always a solid malbec with dark-berry, dried-flower and sweet-tobacco character. Full-bodied, horizontal and open. Flavorful finish. Complexity for the money! Drink or hold." (JS)

Winery Notes:
Aurelio Montes, founder and winemaker of Chile’s renowned Montes winery, established Kaiken after falling in love with Argentina’s terrior-driven wines. Kaiken are a distinctive breed of geese that crisscross above the Andes across Chile and Argentina. In emulation of its namesake, the Kaiken brand reflects the best of both sides of the Andes. Today, the combination of Chilean winemakers and phenomenal estate locations –Maipu (Cruz de Piedra), Lujan de Cuyo (Ugarteche, Agrelo) and Valle de Uco – produce exceptional Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The fruit for our Malbec Ultra was hand-picked into 15kg-trays in April. The process was aimed at preserving the berries, which were selected manually in the winery to ensure removal of any foreign particles capable of affecting final product quality.

This deep brilliant red-colored wine with purplish tones displays rich aromas. The nose has interesting spicy and floral notes-a clear expression of a cool year-intertwined with black fruit aromas reminiscent of blueberries and blackberries that show this variety’s great typicity. Good structure and soft tannins call for a second glass. The finish is fresh, complex, and persistent with fruit notes and subtle spicy undertones of rosemary, thyme, and dry flowers.
