"Ripe and fresh, with a racy edge to the mix of red currant, raspberry and damson plum coulis flavors, all supported by bright acidity and supple, fine-grained tannins, backed by floral mineral and rooibos tea notes on the mouthwatering finish. Best from 2020 through 2035. 366 cases made, 19 cases imported. -JM" (WS)

"A blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault from a classic red clay and galets roulés lieu-dit, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Pied de Baud hints at roses and star anise on the nose, then adds raspberry and cherry fruit. Less ephemeral and silky than the other CdPs in this stable, it's still a solid offering, being medium to full-bodied, sturdy and intense, with a rich, velvety feel and long finish.

This prominent Gigondas estate owns several small parcels in Chateauneuf du Pape, three of which are bottled separately. Young Benjamin Gras believes in a lengthy elevage, so this was a first chance to see the 2017s out of bottle, as well as the newly bottled 2018s. Unfortunately, there was no 2018 La Crau Ouest produced (mildew). " (WA)

"Deep shimmering ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of ripe red and dark berries, baking spices and garrigue slowly pick up a smoky element as the wine stretches out. Juicy and seamless in texture, offering alluringly sweet black raspberry, spicecake and candied lavender flavors that show energetic lift and fine delineation. The floral and spice notes carry strongly through an impressively long, penetrating finish shaped by smooth, slow-building tannins." (VM)

"Coming mostly from the Mont Redon plateau and a blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault, the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Pied de Baud is classic Chateauneuf-du-Pape all the way. Ripe black cherries, pepper, earth, and bouquet garni-like notes all flow to a medium to full-bodied, elegant, nicely textured barrel sample that’s very much in the fresher, more focused, elegant style of this estate."
