"An alluring red, elegant and pure, delivering cherry, strawberry and smoky mineral aromas and flavors. Turns a bit leaner on the finish, yet stays long, with a hint of spice. Drink now through 2024. 3,000 cases imported. -BS" (WS)

"Including some fruit from the Côte Chalonnaise and Mâconnais, the 2017 Bourgogne Chardonnay Reserve reveals aromas of lime blossom, sweet green orchard fruit and lemons, followed by a medium-bodied, open-knit palate, concluding with a fragrant finish. It's best enjoyed in its youth.

Vintage 2017 is a decided success for Bouchard Père & Fils, yielding an impressively consistent range of charming, expressive reds and bright, incisive whites that hit really high notes with the domaine's two cuvées of Chevalier-Montrachet and the Montrachet itself. Frédéric Weber told me that the 2017 harvest went well, with a cold winter helping to limit disease pressure and a dry August resulting in some hydric stress. When harvest came, picking the optimal date for all of Bouchard's 142 parcels of domaine vineyards required careful attention, and Weber noted figgy, dehydrated berries towards the end, validating his decision to commence relatively early. During vinification of the red wines, he continued, the team did mainly pumpovers, looking for gentle extraction. The whites, as usual, went through alcoholic fermentation in tank before being racked to barrel for sur lie maturation." (WA)

"A smoky nose speaks of citrus, matchstick and white orchard fruit aromas. There is both good detail and verve to the nicely concentrated flavors that are delicious if not particularly complex on the attractively dry finish. Even so, this is a relatively dense wine for its level and may add more depth with a year or so of bottle age." (BH)
