"Supple, exuding cherry, blackberry, violet, graphite and tobacco flavors. Succulent, this moves spryly across the palate, ending with a dusting of tannins. Shows fine balance and length. Best from 2021 through 2040. —Bruce Sanderson" (WS)

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva is a dark, powerful wine. Black cherry, cloves, licorice, menthol and chocolate bring out darker tonalities of Sangiovese. This is an especially brooding, potent Riserva. I would cellar it for at least a few years." (VM)

"The blue fruit comes through here with a cool stone and dry-earth character. It’s full-bodied and tight with serious tension and structure. A little austere, but very serious. Drink after 2021." (JS)

Winery Notes:
Fattoria Viticcio’s Chianti Classico Riserva is the result of careful selection of the finest grapes during harvesting, with a predominance of Tuscan Sangiovese. Vinification is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with a long maceration period. Rapid warming of the cellar at the end of the primary fermentation phase enables the swift onset of malolactic fermentation. Depending on the vintage, the wine is aged-in varying proportions and periods of time-in both medium-sized oak barrels and small oak barriques, in order to enhance the aromas to the full. The wine is then aged in horizontally-stored bottles and in temperature-controlled cellars for a minimum of 6 months.
