"Features a blackberry jam aroma, remaining fruity and lush, with accents of tar and black pepper. The solid tannins are typical of the variety, and this stays balanced, lingering on the finish. Drink now through 2024. 666 cases made, 150 cases imported. -BS (WS)

"This is a handsome bottle, both in terms of its label design and its contents. The 2016 Pugnitello is an inky dark expression with a finely chiseled bouquet that sees black fruit, spice and dusty mineral overtones. The mouthfeel offers mild dimension and depth, but there's enough beautiful intensity on the bouquet to make up for that. I'm not sure what to suggest as a drinking window, although I wouldn't push this wine for more than ten years. Indeed, it is best consumed when that bouquet is still so bright and intense, served with chicken-liver pâté on crostini. Only 8,000 bottles were released." (WA)

"All the best elements of the San Felice house style come together in the 2016 Pugnitello. Inky, dark and racy, with superb depth, and 2016 packs a serious punch. Gravel, dried herbs, menthol, licorice, chocolate, blood orange, lavender and new French oak give this extroverted red tons of character. This is not a shy wine, by any means."(VM)

"Impressive, solid red with aromas and flavors of blackberries, licorice, tar and cedar. Full body. Chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Solid wine from this unique grape. Drink after 2020." (JS)
