WHAT A SUPERB VALUE!!

"Pure and expressive, exuding violet, black cherry, black currant and mineral flavors. Linear and wound up, with a core of fruit to match the firm structure. Best from 2021 through 2033. 5,500 cases made. -BS" (WS)

"Rocca di Montegrossi's 2015 Chianti Classico shows depth and good complexity. The bouquet is expansive and bright with black cherry notes followed by grilled herb, rose and crushed mineral. The blend is 90% Sangiovese, 6% Canaiolo and 4% Colorino. It is aged in large oak casks for 15 months. Some 50,000 bottles were produced." (WA)

"The 2016 Chianti Classico is a very serious wine in its peer group. Rich, vivid and beautifully layered, the Chianti Classico will give readers a very good look at just how compelling 2016 is as a vintage. Sweet red cherry, tobacco and menthol notes open up in the glass, but more than anything else, Rocca di Montegrossi's Chianti Classico is a wine of true character. It will age gracefully for a number of years." (VM)

"Aromas of blackberries, blueberries and flowers follow through to a full body with tight and silky tannins. A pretty and polished finish. A subtle and driven wine. Drink now." (JS)

"This is refined and graceful, the grapes (sangiovese with five percent each of canaiolo and colorino) benefiting from 2016’s long and even ripening period. It unfolds with scents of lavender and dried herbs, the bright cherry flavors taking on dark mineral tones with exposure to air. Cool acidity propels the flavors through a long, satisfying finish." (W&S)

Winery Notes:
Winemaker Notes:
Rocca di Montegrossi’s Chianti Classico is the estate’s flagship wine; it is a blend of about 90% Sangiovese, with Canaiolo and Colorino. It ages mainly in large casks and barrels made with Allier oak for 12-14 months. It is unfiltered, and after bottling it ages another 6 months prior to release.

In the glass it is lively ruby, with bright violet reflections, and on the nose displays the rich fruity aromas typical of the varietals, particularly forest berry fruit and sour cherries. On the palate it is harmonious and well structured, with nice tannins and savory notes.

Blend:
88% Sangiovese, 8% Canaiolo, 4% Colorino
