"The 2016 Orvieto Classico Superiore Terre Vineate is a refreshing blend of 50% Procanico, 30% Grechetto and a 20% mix of Verdello and Malvasia. Fruit is selected from various vineyard sites and is fermented and briefly stored in stainless steel. The bouquet offers cutting aromas of citrus, garden grass and tropical fruit. The mouthful is simple, short and fresh.

Giovanni Dubini and the folks at Palazzone recently restored the winery that they used to make their first vintages and that had since been abandoned. The structure is located inside an ancient Etruscan tomb dug into the tufo stone. Palazzone now makes a single wine in this spot called Il Musco, which I did not have the opportunity to taste. Winemaking is completed without the use of electricity and represents a single-vineyard field blend of Procanico, Malvasia and Verdello-three popular indigenous grapes found in the Orvieto appellation of Umbria." "This wine's alluring, delicate scents of white stone fruit, pressed wildflowers and almonds float out of the glass. The savory, linear palate offers mature yellow apple, Bartlett pear, chopped herb and hazelnut notes. Bright acidity gives it a crisp, pristine finish." (WE)

Winery Notes
Giovanni Dubini tackles the delicate art of adjusting the proportions of the five different grape varieties allowed in Orvieto D.O.C. The "Terre Vineate" shows a deep straw-yellow colour. It has an elegant, vivid bouquet with a definite scent of hazelnut. The impact on the palate is intense yet refreshingly dry and the finish is a perfect balance between the perfume of the fruits and a touch of bitterness. Terre Vineate is a wine for pasta dishes, for meat accompanied by rich sauce and for fish cooked in piquant fashion.
