"Steeped plum and blackberry fruit is infused with grilled savory, tobacco and licorice root notes. A grippy back end tugs all the elements together, adding in a bolt of graphite along the way. Delivers character and range. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2020 through 2030. 390 cases made. -JM" (WS)

"A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon (from Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper vineyard in Oakville), 47% Merlot (from Houyi vineyard on Pritchard Hill) and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2016 Reserve Proprietary Red was aged for 22 months in French oak, 95% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it has a wonderfully fragrant nose of violets, black cherries, warm plums and wild blueberries over a core of cassis, cedar chest and dark chocolate with hints of anise and underbrush. Full-bodied, rich and incredibly lively, it has loads of spicy sparks and a fantastically velvety texture, finishing long with savory and earthy notions coming through. Around 600 cases were made.

A professional golfer since 1997, Cristie Kerr got into wine while touring the golfing world in the late 1990s. Taking the opportunity to visit wineries while traveling to wine-related areas such as Napa Valley, France and Australia strengthened her burgeoning love of wine. In May 2008, she visited Susan Pride Bryan, co-owner of Pride Mountain Vineyards, with a view of producing her own label and having the proceeds going to Breast Cancer research. The first blends of Curvature were born that night from the 2006 vintage. Since then, the Curvature label has been made by Sally Johnson, the winemaker from Pride Mountain. More recently, Cristie has developed her own label—called Kerr—with Helen Keplinger as the winemaker. This project has expanded to include a Napa Sauvignon Blanc and Sonoma Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Kerr’s goals of meticulous craftsmanship, small quantity and high quality begin with impressive vineyard sources and continue right through the no-compromises winemaking. “I’ve put my whole heart and soul into golf, and now I’ve done the same with wine,” Kerr told me. It is still early days for this burgeoning project, and yet the results are already very impressive." (WA)

"Kerr's 2016 Napa Valley Reserve is absolutely gorgeous. Blackberry jam, graphite, smoke, leather, menthol, licorice and flowers give the Reserve striking nuance and complexity, but it is the wine's structural intensity and explosive energy that make the Reserve so compelling. A drop of Petit Verdot adds to the wine's distinctly savory personality. This is a superb showing." (VM)

"An intense nose of blackberry cake, licorice, blackcurrant tart, cassis, vanilla and eucalyptus. The palate presents a lot of the same, powerful fruit, but it’s wrapped in a healthy package of structured tannins, leading through to a chewy finish. Drink in 2024." (JS)

Winery Notes:
The 2016 Kerr Reserve Red is a tightly-wound, beautiful wine with incredible purity. The nose offers intense cassis, white tobacco, black cherry, cedar, violet candy, black licorice, and balsamic notes. The palate exhibits a super silky entry, with layers of red and black fruits, spice box, opening underlined by plush tannins and driving a very long finish. This wine will age effortlessly.
