2018 WINE SPECTATOR TOP 100: #36

"Strikes a fine balance between vibrant citrus and green apple and pear notes. Lightly oaky and creamy midpalate, this is deftly elegant and refined. Drink now through 2022. 5,400 cases made. -JL" (WS)

"The 2016 Chardonnay Tre Terre has a nose of ripe peaches, honeydew melon and green guava with hints of ginger, brioche and marzipan. Medium-bodied with an appealing suggestion of oiliness to the texture, it fills the palate with stone fruit and spice flavors, finishing with lovely freshness. 5,400 cases produced." (WA)

Winery Notes:
Aromas & Flavors:
This is a delicious, full‐bodied Chardonnay with aromas and flavors of Meyer lemon, citrus, apple, graham cracker, creamy marshmallow, peach, apricot, pear, brown sugar and spice. Trè Terre is a wine with bright fruit, nice acidity and a long, lingering finish.

Food Pairings:
This wine’s rich fruit component complements mildly spiced vegetarian dishes and rich, creamy shellfish entrées. It also works well with veal, poultry, pasta and rice.

How It's Made:
Each lot for this wine is hand harvested, whole‐cluster pressed, then barrel fermented with native and cultured yeast. The wine completes 96% malolactic fermentation and is sur lie aged and stirred weekly for nine months. The final blend was assembled in May 2017, and the wine is barreled again in neutral oak until bottling, for a total of almost 17 months of barrel aging. All vineyard lots are treated separately until blending.

The Vintage:
Overall, 2016 was a good year. Spring produced great set, and despite a third year of drought conditions in our area, vines produced ideal yields. Warmer temperatures during the supper months allowed the fruit to achieve mature, ripe flavors.
