"Combines structure with elegance and polish, offering expressive black berry, mocha and thyme accents that take on richness toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2025. 2,744 cases made. -TF" (WS)

"Showing power and elegance on the nose, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon focuses more on aromas of dark fruits and sturdy oak, with a pronounced minerality. The full-bodied palate shows more complexity than the nose leads on, with a bold and tight structure of dense blackberry and cassis tones that make way for a firm tannic grip. The wine lingers on the long finish with nuances of wet river rock, bitter dark chocolate and graphite. Give this one some time in the cellar. 2,744 cases were made." (WA)

"(the pH here is around 3.8, with very little acid added, according to winemaker Josh McDaniel): Bright ruby-red. Pure but laid-back aromas of black raspberry, tobacco leaf, sweet spices and licorice. Sweet, chewy and concentrated, showing distinct herb, licorice and menthol nuances to its penetrating flavors of cassis, black cherry, bitter chocolate and mint, with a hint of violet providing lift; this sample did not display the slightly inky edge of an earlier bottle. Not a particularly opulent or fat wine but very much in the style of this vintage. Finishes subtle and sneaky-long, with fine-grained tannins coating the front teeth. Really builds and lingers on the aftertaste; I suspect this wine will eventually merit an even higher score as it unwinds. High-quality oak here! " (VM)

"There’s a very attractive plum and spice feel to the nose with a wealth of ripe dark berries and a thread of chocolate on offer here, as well as hints of spice. Ripe, thicker-grained tannins. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot. Drink or hold." (JS)

"Deep purple-colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon offers a beautiful bouquet of crème de cassis, graphite, and spicy wood that develops nicely with additional time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and silky on the palate, with terrific purity, it has building tannins and a great finish, all giving it an accessible yet also age-worthy feel. It will keep for two decades. This cuvée is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 4% Malbec, and the balance Merlot, brought up in 80% new French oak." (JD)

"Cellar Selection, Dried herbs, cherry jam, graphite and spice lead to ripe, full, fleshy fruit flavors that linger. It comes off as quite ripe but has a pleasing yum factor and a fine sense of acidity. Best after 2026. Sean P. Sullivan" (WE)

Winery Notes:
For former NFL Quarterback Drew Bledsoe, owning a winery has been a longtime aspiration that would allow him to combine his passion for fine wine and love of the Walla Walla Valley. Drew returned to his hometown in 2007 to plant his estate vineyard, McQueen, in SeVein Vineyards of Distinction. The following year, Drew launched Doubleback, an estate-focused winery with the goal to produce ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon from the Walla Walla Valley. To make this dream a reality, Drew collaborated with his childhood friend Chris Figgins of Figgins Family Wine Estates. Chris consulted on all winemaking and vineyard practices while training current Winemaker, Josh McDaniels, who assumed the role in 2015.

Since the first release, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon, Doubleback has received numerous accolades including a spot on the Wine Spectators Top 100 List. The vision for Doubleback remains to be a premium wine experience completely focused on quality. To further assist the production of high-quality Walla Walla Valley fruit for Doubleback, Drew acquired a second estate vineyard in 2011. Drew and Maura Bledsoe are committed to only using the best viticulture and winemaking practices to ensure that Doubleback will be one of the best bottles of wine you will drink.
