"The 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Séchet is one of the high points of the range chez Dauvissat this year, unfurling in the glass with notes of lemon oil, caramelized citrus rind, dried white flowers and smoky reduction. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and layered, with chewy extract and an intensely mineral, chalky quality. It's structurally quite tight-knit and will demand some time.

As is consistently the case, Vincent Dauvissat has fashioned some of the finest wines to be found in both the 2016 and 2017 vintages. 2016 is a small crop, amounting to a mere third of an average harvest. The wines are comparatively low in acidity, with notable concentration, but remaining tense, pure and incisive. By the standards of Dauvissat's wines, I suspect they will prove comparatively precocious but hold well—perhaps evoking the 1992 vintage. The domaine also suffered in 2017, though not as badly, losing some 30% of a normal harvest. The remaining grapes were ripe and clean, producing wines best described as classic but charming. As at several other addresses where long sur lie élevage is the norm, I caught the nascent 2017s very early in their evolution, so I'll try to look at them again later in the year. " (WA)

"Bright lemon-yellow color. Tight, reticent nose hints at citrus peel and metallic minerality, plus a suggestion of dried fruits. Then juicy and lemony on the palate, showing a distinctly upright quality and pronounced minerality but with an essential pliancy of texture. I like the balance of sweetness, acidity and minerality here. Dauvissat compared this wine to the 2006 version but noted that the earlier vintage was higher in alcohol and doesn't have the same balance as '16." (VM)

"The hallmark citrus elements are present in force on the essence of pear, lychee, sea breeze and floral-nuanced nose. The mouth feel of the medium weight flavors is finer if perhaps not quite as rich while offering very good length on the balanced finale that evidences notes of citrus compote. This will need a few years to develop more depth but the underlying material is here." (BH)
