"Coming mostly from estate fruit brought up all in tank, the 2016 Chardonnay is a delicious, undeniably quaffable beauty loaded with notions of ripe citrus, lemon, and grapefruit. With no hard edges and a supple, delicious style, it's not going to make old bones but certainly dishes out plenty of pleasure." (JD)

Winery Notes:
Domaine de Bernier is an estate bottled wine from the Couillaud brothers of Château de la Ragotière, from vineyards just outside the appellation of Muscadet. They are separated only by a small road and the soil is almost identical to that of Muscadet, a heavy clay with a little bit of chalk. The wine is from 20 year old vines and 8% is barrel-fermented in French oak, the remainder is aged sur lie in tanks. The wine is then bottled in the month of April.

This is 100% Chardonnay and entirely estate bottled. The annual productions is approximately 15,000 cases. This is one of the few chardonnay vin de pays appellations that originates in the Loire and therefore has a much higher acidity.

Here’s what the critics have had to say about past vintages of Domaine de Bernier Chardonnay:
“This wine, made outside of Muscadet by one of that appellation’s high quality producers, the Couillauds, does a fine job of impersonating a Chablis. There is enough Chardonnay character to please fans of that varietal, but the real hallmark of this wine is its crisp, elegant, steely, mineral, and citrusy personality. It is impossible to find a wine of this type from California, Australia, or South America. A refreshing, lively wine, it will drink beautifully with light fish dishes, or served as an aperitif.” - Robert M. Parker, Jr, THE WINE ADVOCATE
