Winery Notes:
BACKGROUND:
Family-owned since 1898, the vineyard was gradually expanded and became the principal activity of the Couderc family in 1985. High up on the plateau de Pujols, a rocky outcrop overlooking the Dordogne Valleyand facing the slopes of Saint Emilion, are the constructions of five successive generations. The entire estate has been modernized and the vineyard is run with passion and painstaking care by Mr. Couderc senior, aided, since 1997, by his son Julien, a qualified viticulturist and oenologist.

SURFACE:
31 ha

GRAPE VARIETIES:
80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc

TERROIR:
The vineyard is south-facing and situated on rather rugged hillsides of mainly calcareous clay soils with rocky terraces.

WINEMAKING/MATURING:
The ch√Ęteau has set up a series of quality measures, two prime objectives of which are: to control and limit yields (pruning, green harvesting, grass cover) and to obtain optimum ripeness (maximum surface trellised, leaf thinning, harvest sorted on the vine). Harvesting is by machine, enabling the harvesting dates to be chosen judiciously as each plot attains ideal ripeness. The winery is equipped with stainless steel and cement vats. Maceration lasts around 3 weeks. Pre-fermentation maceration. Temperature control. Pneumatic press.
