"The 2016 Roero Arneis was bottled on Saint Valentine's Day and that's a fitting touch. Some 140,000 bottles were made, which is more than average. This is a fresh and buoyant wine that is loaded with tangy tropical fruit, pineapple and honeydew melon. The wine's intensity is exuberant, pronounced and refreshing. Dustings of fine mineral and salty limestone characteristics give the wine a brilliant sense of polish and crispness. Bruna Giacosa tells me the fruit harvested in 2016 was beautiful. She distinctly remembers the perfumes of the Arneis grapes as they came into the winery on the back of a truck during harvest. This is a beautiful white wine.

During my annual tasting with Bruna Giacosa in Neive, I learned a few new things. First, the newest vintage (2013) of the Barbaresco Rabajà now uses fruit from a new parcel directly owned by the estate. That means production of this wine is assured for the future. The Barolo Riserva Falletto Vigna le Rocche was produced in 2014 as was the 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Asili. These are the two red label wines. The Barolo will be released in 2020 and the Barbaresco hits the market in 2019. Production numbers are low on both wines." (WA)

Winery Notes:
Made from 100% Arneis, an indigenous varietal cultivated in the Roero area. This wine was fermented entirely in stainless steel tanks, where it was aged for three additional months prior to bottling, to ensure additional elegance. In the local dialect, “Arneis” means difficult or stubborn; this grape’s delicate skin makes this one of the toughest varietals to grow in Piedmont.

Tasting Notes:
Giacosa's Arneis offers subtle, elegant aromas of apples, pears and peaches. This is a very refreshing white recommended with a wide variety of foods, including antipasti and pasta dishes.
