"The Visconti 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows a tangy, Sangiovese-driven bouquet with wild berry, crushed flower and dried mint or rosemary essence. Drying mineral tones also appear, as the grapes are harvested from a five-hectare parcel that is rich in galestro soil. This was a warm and sunny growing season; however, the wine offers the tart acidity, firm structure and tangy wild berries flavors that distinguish Brunello. The wine is accessible now, perhaps alongside grilled lamb, but it could also hold in your cellar. Some 5,000 bottles were released.

There are many up-and-coming wine realities now in Montalcino, many of which I am tasting for the first time. This brand, Visconti, made by the folks at La Palazzetta, is one of them. Carla Visconti is the wife of La Palazzetta founder Flavio Fanti. She decided to make wines under the Visconti name in 1990. Farming is organic here too, and great care is taken to safeguard Brunello tradition." (WA)

"Polished nose of sandalwood and cloves with raw mushrooms and fresh berries. It’s structured and fresh on the palate with a medium to full body and ultra-fine tannins. Tar and mineral notes at the finish. Rather tight. Drink from 2022, to allow it to open up." (JS)
