"Aromas of cherry, plum, earth and mineral indicate complexity right off the bat. The center is rich and packed with ripe fruit, while the muscular finish winds down slowly, showing elements of mineral, tar and tobacco. Serious, and should age well. Best from 2021 through 2032. 21,700 cases made, 6,700 cases imported. -BS" (WS)

"The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio is one of my favorite wines among this group of new releases from San Felice. That low price is one reason. The wine exhibits a very lively and juicy quality of primary fruit that gives it that extra edge. Dark cherry and plum are followed up by leather, tar, licorice and grilled herb. This is a great near or medium-term drinking choice. With 260,000 bottles made, this wine should be easy to locate." (WA)

"The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio da San Felice, 100% Sangiovese, is racy and polished. The French oak is pushed to the edge, and yet the wine has enough richness and depth to handle it. Readers should expect a plush, deep Riserva. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, cedar and new leather meld into the pliant, racy finish." (VM)

"Another Chianti Classico Riserva that shows such purity of fruit, with brambleberries, blackcurrants, morello cherries, dark plums and a dash of dried herbs. Loads of fresh fruit on the palate that’s set across a frame of pretty acidity and a web of finely wrought tannins. A chewy yet taut finish. Drink in 2022." (JS)

"Underbrush, leather, charred earth, baked plum and a whiff of camphor form the nose. The taut, savory palate offers fleshy Marasca cherry, truffle and baking spice set against fine-grained tannins. Drink 2020–2027. -Kerin O’Keefe" (WE)

Winery Notes:
Here is a proud, noble wine, taciturn but decisive, precisely as we imagine Il Grigio, the grey-bearded medieval knight dramatically presented in local stories, and perfectly suggested by Titian in the portrait utilised on the wine’s label.

Produced from carefully-selected sangiovese grapes, Il Grigio represents the iconic elegance of the traditional Chianti Classico, exhibiting the steely temperament, the dynamism, and the ability to surprise typical of the adventurous, all qualities eminently characteristic of the noble variety that yields Il Grigio.
