"The 2015 Northern Blend is a Syrah cuvée that's co-fermented with 6% Viognier, and it's a superb wine, wafting from the glass with notions of grilled meat, dark fruits, tapenade, bay leaf and pungent black pepper. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, with low acidity but a saline stoniness that lends it a freshness all of its own, concluding with a mouthwateringly sapid finish. It's a complex, savory Syrah that's elegantly textural and full of flavor." (WA)

"(one-third of this fruit comes from SJR vineyard in The Rocks; vinified with 40% whole clusters): Deep ruby-red. Distinctly dark aromas of blackberry, gunflint and licorice. Densely packed, velvety and seamless, with its black fruit flavors showing a distinct saline quality. Very Rhône Valley in style, with a pH of 4.1, but Boyd notes that the Tablas Creek clone used here retains sound acidity. Finishes with an attractive hint of sweetness, plush tannins and lovely length and lift. I much prefer this wine to its 2014 predecessor for its greater complexity and depth." (VM)

VINEYARD NOTES:
Rocks Disctrict fruit makes up this blend. Co-fermentation is a technique that has been used for centuries in the Northern Rhone. The Viognier adds florals to the nose, as well as balancing the wine structurally. As a result, the Northern Blend is deep, dark and earthy.

TASTING NOTES:
Sourced from The Rocks District in Walla Walla Valley, the 2015 Northern Blend expresses the savory and earthy terroir of its region. It exhibits aromas of violet and bacon fat. On the palate, soft black fruits with velvety tannins and dark chocolate deliver a voluptuous and complex texture.
