1448 - the alltude of our small family winery in the foothills of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains.

The success and popularity of the ‘1448’ has created a demand for this wine that has outgrown our ability to produce it solely from the surpluses of our varietal wine program. Beginning with the 2011 vintage and confnuing with the 2012 and 2013, we have selected a number of some of my favorite vineyards to deliver fruit with an eye to making 1448. I have always enjoyed working with Peite Sirah and Peit Verdot and so these grapes establish the framework for the 2013 wine. We have maintained a wonderful element of the blend; Tannat. The structure and depth of this variety add a complex intensity. We also included small quanities of Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Dolce, Pinot Noir, Trincadera, Zinfandel, Barbera, Souzao, and Syrah. Aged in French oak, the fruit-forward flavors and barrel-aged texture and depth, along with rich smooth tannins, remain hallmarks of this wine.
