"A nervy red, with plenty of tannins behind the wild cherry and dark plum flavors. Tarry notes show on the firm finish, revealing peppery hints. Malbec. Drink now through 2021. 1,050 cases made, 250 cases imported. -KM" (WS)

"There are only two bottlings from the Aluvional range in 2014, as Sebastián Zuccardi felt in that vintage the deeper soils lost some of the tension he's aiming for. One of them is the 2014 Aluvional Altamira. Some 30% to 50% full clusters were used for the fermentation, with only half of the wine in oak. The nose shows black fruit and some herbs, with a spicy touch. The palate shows more restraint and the expression of the stony soils, with a core of limestone balancing the roundness of the fruit and coming through as mineral and with a salty finish. 13,000 bottles produced.

The Zuccardi wines keep advancing in their search for purity and freshness, trying to show the terroir of the different places, removing all makeup and excess. They now have great conditions with the fully functional and impressive new all-cement winery in Altamira in the Valle de Uco. This is definitively one of the change-leaders of Argentinean wine, a change that is already permeating their other project in eastern Mendoza, Santa Julia." (WA)

"Full ruby-red. Rather wild scents of musky blackberry, kirsch, crushed rock, licorice pastille, violet and orange peel. Extremely juicy, primary and bound-up, even a bit youthfully imploded. Seems higher-pitched than the 2015 version, and a touch floral, but no closer to drinking today even though it's currently revealing more vibrant fruit. The very dry, savory finish features serious tongue- and tooth-dusting tannins and subtle rising length. Lay this penetrating, slightly unyielding Malbec down for at least another three years, as it needs time to expand." (VM)

"Fresh flowers and dried strawberries on the nose. Medium body, tight and chewy tannins with a fresh and clean finish. Drink or hold." (JS)

"Intense aromas of iodine and dried blood mix with pointy berry aromas. This is tight, drawing and highly acidic, and arguably in need of a bit more body. Savory saucy red-plum and red-currant flavors are tart and tangy, while this Altamira Malbec feels firm and fresh, some might say angular and too fresh. Drink through 2028. -Michael Schachner " (WE)

Winery Notes:
Zuccardi Aluvional Paraje Altamira reflects this particularity in a wine of intense color that expresses a complex profile of fresh red fruit supplemented with herbal and floral notes, which marked minerality adds, with notes of wet stone and graphite. The palate is silky with a lively acidity and great structure provided by the tannins. Complex and long on the finish.
