"Composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 20% Petit Verdot, the 2014 Proprietor’s Reserve has a medium garnet-purple color and nose of crème de cassis, baked plums and bay leaves with hints of dried roses, dusty earth and cloves. Medium-bodied and led by a solid structure of firm, chewy tannins and lively acid, it has taut, muscular black berry and earth flavors, as well as a long, savory finish." (WA)

Winery Notes:
Vineyards:
All the fruit was harvested exclusively from our home Vineyard, Poggio alla Pietra, Cavedale Rd, on the Sonoma side of Mt Veeder now known as Moon Mountain District. Steep and arid sites with volcanic red and rocky soil are the features of the south facing slopes of Petroni Vineyards. Hand farmed according to organic principles, the vines are carefully maintained and the crop reduced to ensure ripe and concentrated wines are produced from this outstanding site.

Winemaking:
Each portion of fruit is picked at the right moment to harness the balance of acidity and ripe tannin and flavors and in the case of 2014 it was uncommonly late in the year. Perfectly ripe fruit is married to an elegant selection of 100% new French oak. This blend is produced only in the best vintages from barrels selected from our finest lots. The aim is to produce a wine that exhibits richness, complexity and a sense of place.

Tasting Note:
Deeply colored with a purple/burgundy hue. Richly aromatic this 2014 initially presents itself with very pretty and floral with cassis, chocolate, sweet mint, cedar and earth. The palate is smooth, fluid, dense and creamy with a solid core of bright fruit featuring blue berry and black berry, cedar, citrus essence and sage. The layers of fruit render the 100% new French oak a complimentary component. It is all set on a gentle but firm tannic frame with fine acid and a long finish. Whilst drinking superbly now it remains a fine candidate for the cellar.
