"The 2014 Merlot is 78.8% Merlot, 8.4% Petit Verdot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Cabernet Franc aged 15 months in neutral oak. Spicy notes in the fragrance along with hints of coffee bean, chocolate, and red and black cherries jump from the glass of this round, lush, easygoing style of Merlot, which is meant to be drunk over the next 10 years or so.

Freemark Abbey remains one of the legendary Napa Valley wineries. In spite of what many feared when it was acquired by the Jackson family of Kendall-Jackson, things have only gotten stronger and more consistent under their leadership, with the continuation of chief winemaker Ted Edwards. Since I have been tasting these wines over the last few years, this has been a consistent producer of high quality wines in both red and white. They have added a couple of new cuvées to the portfolio, but are still well-known for their non-malolactic style of Chardonnay." (WA)

"A soft and pretty red now with chocolate, berry and currant character. Full body, round tannins and a delicious finish. Layered and rich style. Delicious. Drink now. " (JS)

Winery Notes:
Opaque depth of red ruby color, our merlot expresses rich dark fruit aromas composed of blackberry, black currant, blue berry and dark cherry. There is a dark chocolate nuance with integrated spicy oak. Coupled with the rich dark fruit, there is a hint of arugula adding to the complexity. The entry and finish are very smooth with integrated fruit resembling black cherry, the overall balance of fruit, body, tannin and acidity are impeccable. The velvety texture coupled with the richness of flavor provides a profile that delivers from initial sip, one that continues on the palate for a very long finish. Enjoy!
