"Taut, with slate and dried herbal notes to the black cherry and dried berry flavors. Forest floor accents show on the crisp finish. Drink now through 2020. 1,998 cases made. -KM " (WS)

"Made by Tyler Thomas, the 2014 Pinot Noir Estate is a beauty. Coming from the estate vineyard outside of Santa Maria, it gives up impressive notes of scorched earth, pepper, herbs and spice, with a core of currant and dark fruits. This medium-bodied, nicely textured effort has fine tannin, good mid-palate depth, and a supple, medium length finish. It’s a downright pretty, elegant Pinot Noir to drink over the coming 5-7 years.

Winemaker Tyler Thomas continues to produce outstanding wines for Jim and Mary Dierberg, who own three estate vineyards: Dierberg, Drum Canyon and Star Lane Vineyard." (WA)

"The nose of this bottling from winemaker Tyler Thomas is simultaneously delicate and voluptuous, with strawberry, plump plum, crushed slate and pepper seasonings. The palate is focused, with fresh red fruit, a rocky structure and strong thyme, marjoram and sage characteristics. Soft and delicious, it finishes with a dried strawberry kick." (WE)

Winery Notes:
WINEMAKER NOTES 2014:
was a terrific vintage for the eponymous Dierberg Vineyard Pinot Noir. The balance to strike from this vineyard seems to be how to bring enough fruit flavor through ripening but not going so far as to broaden the texture such that a sense of freshness is lost (as we believe an early, warm vintage is at risk of doing). Sensible harvest timing along with judicious stem inclusion (25% on average) and less new oak assist in striking that balance of increasing supple qualities to support a vineyard that wants to produce broader textures with evoking the dark cherry fruit qualities the vineyard produces at its best. We believe 2014 did this exceptionally well.
