"Black cherry, raspberry, leather, tar and earth flavors are matched to a generous texture. Sturdy tannins line the finish, but overall this shows purity, balance and length. Drink now through 2022. 1,200 cases imported.–BS " (WS)

"The 2014 Chianti Classico Ama is a less formal wine with a lean and somewhat watery mouthfeel. This wine does not deliver the same level of intensity seen in previous vintages. However, it does exhibit mild aromas of wild berry and white almond followed by fresh acidity and food-friendly appeal. This wine is best enjoyed within the next three years.

Sadly, Marco Pallanti did not make any wine in 2012 because conditions were so bad in his corner of Gaiole in Chianti. Happily, he has returned to his full regime with the 2013 vintage (tasted here). The three Chianti Classico Gran Selezione wines (Vigneto Bellavista, San Lorenzo and Vigneto la Casuccia) are simply divine. However, I did have doubts concerning the 100% Merlot L'Apparita that tastes a bit green and sour in the cool 2013 vintage." (WA)

"The 2014 Chianti Classico Ama offers lovely fruit intensity, with plenty of bright red cherry, plum, spice, rose petal and mint flavors. This is a decidedly lithe, translucent wine for Ama, yet all the elements are well balanced throughout. A final burst of acidity lends energy to the finish. Drink this silky, mid-weight Chianti Classico over the next few years. " (VM)

"A tight and vibrant Chianti Classico with dried berry, lemon and stone. Medium body, firm tannins and a bright acidity. Excellent quality for this difficult vintage. Drink now." (JS)

Winery Notes:
Castello di Ama sits 12 miles northeast of Siena in the hills of Gaiole. This is the heart of Chianti Classico, a bucolic rolling landscape of woods, vineyards and olive groves. The property is owned and operated by the husband and wife team of Marco Pallanti and Lorenza Sebasti. Over the last quarter century they have replanted all of the vineyards and upgraded all of the winemaking capabilities to make this one of Tuscany’s showcase producers.
