"Shows fine purity to the cherry, strawberry and leather notes, with a hint of licorice. Ripe, sweet fruit and a juicy texture collide as this plays out on the long finish. Drink now through 2025. 1,500 cases imported.–BS " (WS)

"The 2014 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo flaunts its importance. It boasts confidence and an outward-looking personality that comes as a refreshing surprise. Like all Gran Selezione wines, it is released 30 months after January 1st following the harvest. That means it still has a few more months to go before it hits the market. This expression of Sangiovese shows depth and power with ripe fruit tones of cherry and forest berry. Like many of the other high profile wines I preview-tasted from the difficult 2014 vintage, I am delighted and surprised by the elegant and soft nature of the mature tannins. The wine’s finish offers bright freshness with layers of dark fruit, wet earth and forest floor.

Marco Pallanti did not make his single-vineyard wines Vigneto Bellavista and Vigneto La Casuccia in 2014. Instead, fruit went to the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo and production of that wine was down by 15% regardless. The single-vineyard wines will be available in the 2015 and 2016 vintages. Castello di Ama’s 2014 Gran Selezione San Lorenzo will be released following the summer. Both the 2014 Haiku and L’Apparita come out in September. The Chardonnay 2015 Al Poggio is on the market now." (WA)

"Ama's 2014 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo is one of the successes of this very challenging vintage. Then again, Ama did not bottle their flagship Casuccia and Bellavista Chianti Classicos. Instead, all of the best fruit went into the San Lorenzo. A dark, rich wine, the 2014 possesses notable depth and persistence. Black cherry, plum, mocha, leather and spice notes give the wine its signature dark profile. At the same time, there is more than enough freshness to support a number of years of very fine drinking. The flavors are a bit forward, so I would not wait too long on the 2014." (VM)

"This is extremely tangy with plenty of chocolate and lemon character and hints of cedar, too. Medium body, bright acidity and chocolatey aftertaste. Very refined and well-crafted for a 2014. Drink now." (JS)

"Aromas of exotic spice, pipe tobacco, woodland berry and a whiff of French oak take center stage on this fragrant, elegant red. The racy, ethereal palate delivers tart red cherry, tart pomegranate, cinnamon and vanilla framed in taut fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Drink 2019–2026." (WE)
