"Suave and finely textured, with an engaging minerality to the dark plum, red currant and dried blackberry flavors, supported by firm tannins and acidity. The savory finish has hints of pepper and plenty of cedary spice accents. Drink now through 2024. 3,500 cases made. –KM " (WS)

"There is a new Malbec, the 2013 José Zuccardi, produced with grapes from different locations in the Valle de Uco that fermented in cement vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in a combination of cement vats and oak foudres. This is really the evolution of the old Zeta, the only wine that remains a blend of different places in the range, all from limestone-rich places. It is a blend of Altamira and Gualtallary in this first vintage, but in the future it will also contain fruit from San Pablo. It has 10% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc and in the future it might end up being a blend of Malbec and Cabernet Franc. This was matured in foudre, so it has a rounder, more traditional style as an homage to José Alberto Zuccardi, father of Sebastián. The Cabernet seems to provide good freshness to the blend, and you clearly notice the chalky texture, the austere and dry sensation of the limestone tannins. It was bottled in May 2015 and they kept the wine for a while to make the transition of brands, as the vinification and blend was completely different. 40,000 bottles produced.

The Zuccardi wines keep advancing in their search for purity and freshness, trying to show the terroir of the different places, removing all makeup and excess. They now have great conditions with the fully functional and impressive new all-cement winery in Altamira in the Valle de Uco. This is definitively one of the change-leaders of Argentinean wine, a change that is already permeating their other project in eastern Mendoza, Santa Julia. " (WA)

"(no new oak): Medium ruby-red. Musky scents of currant, black raspberry, tobacco leaf, violet, licorice and fresh herbs. Juicy, intense and quite suave, with refreshing bright acidity framing and lifting the ripe, generous currant, blackberry, licorice, spice and herb flavors. Very sophisticated, pliant, dry-but-ripe wine with fine-grained, palate-saturating tannins and slowly mounting spicy persistence. This goes on and on in the mouth. A compellingly dense beauty." (VM)

"A juicy red with plum, dark-berry and dark-chocolate character. Full body, a tight and focused center palate and a flavorful finish. Drink now or hold." (JS)

Winery Notes:
Sebastian Zuccardi made this wine in honor of his father, José Alberto Zuccardi. Created in a more traditional style, the wine symbolizes Jose’s passion for his wine family, his commitment to quality and his conviction for mountain wines.
