"A solid effort, rich and concentrated, with complex notes of dusty currant, sage, blackberry and anise, ending with fine-grained tannins that give the flavors traction and dimension. Drink now. 22,500 cases made.–JL" (WS)

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa, a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Syrah, is soft and easygoing with a dark ruby/purple color, medium body, light tannin and is meant for early consumption. Drink it over the next 7-8 years." (WA)

"Sequoia Grove's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is dark, fleshy and supple, especially for the year. Plum, blackberry, sage, mint, mocha and leather open up in a dark, brooding Cabernet that should drink well with minimal cellaring. The blend is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 9% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec and 1% Syrah" (VM)

"GOOD VALUE, From the outset, this wine impresses as straight down the varietal pathway with its cassis and black olive first bits joined by a quiet layer of dark chocolate and a hint of roasted vanilla bean. And that precision is repeated in the mouth where its light-medium tannins both firm it up at the back and Cabernet's continuity and unwavering, mid-depth fruit give it the solidity to hold itself in good nick for three to six years to come at a minimum. Reviewed: April 2017" (CG)

"Very pretty balance and refinement with black currant, leather and hints of toasted oak. Full body, delicate tannins and a savory finish. This makes you want to drink it." (JS)

Grapes come from the finest vineyard sites in Napa Valley's best appellations, including Sequoia Grove and Tonella Estate vineyards in Rutherford, and select parcels from to growers, including Stagecoach, Morisoli, Lamoreaux, Henry Brothers, Healy vineyard and Christian vineyard. All fruit is hand sorted before a 1-2 day cold soak, then fermented in small batches, with pumpovers 2-3 times a day, and malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine matured for 20 months in American oak barrels (40% new).

The 2013 harvest was unbelievable in many ways. The near floods at the end of 2012 set us up nicely to weather the very dry season of 2013. The growth season started earlier, giving us plenty of time to ripen another solid crop. Harvest was a dream. This was the first vintage in a long time where the moderate fall temperatures meant winemakers were truly able to take their time-no rain nor heat spikes to get in the way of bringing in nearly perfect grapes. Many are confidently saying that this vintage looks to be the vintage of the decade.

Red/black in color, this wine has notes of blackberry and mocha with hints of plum and sage. On the palate, the impeccably balanced wine is dark, fleshy and supple, with notes of espresso and bittersweet chocolate and a touch of black cherry on the finish.

Versatile with food, this wine pairs well with grilled red meats and vegetables, pork tenderloin and heavy cheeses.
