"Fresh and savory, with a minty edge to the dark berry and coffee flavors, coming together harmoniously on the savory finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Drink now through 2020. 4,781 cases made. -HS" (WS)

"A big, ripe, hedonist's blend of 64% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc and Malbec, the 2013 Walter Clore Private Reserve gives up ample blackcurrants, smoked herbs, licorice and hints of chocolate. With full-bodied richness, lots of sweet fruit and a mouth-filling, pleasure-bent style, drink it over the coming 6-7 years.

Winemaker Juan Muñoz Oca does a terrific job with these wines from Columbia Crest, and this estate doesn’t get the recognition they deserve for both the quality and quantity they produce." (WA)

"Bright ruby-red. Plum, redcurrant, mocha and smoky, spicy oak on the high-toned nose and palate. Supple and fine-grained in texture, but with a slight herbal edge to the middle palate. Doesn't have the power or definition of some recent vintages of this wine but there's good density to the fruit. The strong chocolate-mint oak element gives the tannins a dry edge. I'd be more optimistic about the future of this wine if it showed more primary fruit today. My score may be more appropriate for those who are particularly tolerant of heavy lumber. (Incidentally, I tasted three bottles of the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve and found each one too roasted and evolved to recommend.)" (VM)

"A style statement that speaks to the established Columbia Crest brand. Very ripe with assertive new oak (100%) and blackberry and cassis fruits that pervade the nose and palate. Super long sweet-fruit flavors with plenty of mocha warming the finish. Blend of 64% merlot, 33% cabernet sauvignon, 2% cabernet franc and 1% malbec. This wine needs time. Try from 2025 for the complete expression." (JS)

"Merlot (64%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (34%) makes up the majority of this wine, which is topped off by smidgens of Cabernet Franc and Malbec. The aromas of raspberries, black cherries and milk chocolate are generous, while the palate brings a sense of smoothness and balance." (WE)

Winery Notes:
This classic Bordeaux-style wine opens with intense aromatics of graphite and plums. Balanced flavors of dark fruit and black currant lead to hints of cocoa and tobacco on the palate. The supple tannins lead to a smoky, velvety finish. This wine is powerful, yet elegant.
