"This supple, tender version glides along gracefully, with complex dusty earth and red and dark berry flavors, complemented by savory cedary oak. Easy to approach and enjoy. Drink now through 2024. 1,625 cases made. -J.L." (WS)

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc aged in 70% in new French oak, is impressive. Pure black raspberry and blackcurrant fruit are present in this full-bodied, opulent, but nicely delineated and vibrant wine. The wine has a lot of sappy energy, wonderful freshness and a full-bodied mouthfeel with a long finish. It’s accessible now, but promises to be better in 5-7 years and evolve for 25." (WA)

"Barnett's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Spring Mountain) is ripe, exotic and full-throttle, with plenty of black cherry, spice and mint overtones. I find the distinctly sweet style a bit distracting, but I imagine some readers might find more pleasure." (VM)

Winery Notes:
Vintage Notes:
After an amazing year like 2012 we were not sure what the 2013 harvest was going to bring. It was hard to believe that conditions could rival, even better the 2012 vintage. What makes such a great year?, the ability to bring in fruit at ones leisure, without climatic conditions forcing the decision. With perfect fall days the grape flavors developed steadily, with the cool nights slowing down sugar accumulation. Each parcel sourced was picked at their individually perfect point of physiological ripeness, throughout a variety of dates and times. Sourced from our own estate and neighboring vineyards of Estate control, this Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon captures the essence of mountain fruit.

Winemaker Notes:
The grapes were sourced from our Estate, and neighboring York Creek Vineyards, with the entire blend being solely from the Spring Mountain Appellation and all under estate control. Each lots time frame of maceration was based individually on each lots extraction, from 15 to 24 days. Each Vineyard block was then aged separately for 16 months then blended & followed by another 6 months in barrel, the barrels being French oak and 70% new. The addition of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot spiced up the blend and added more structure to the wine.

Tasting Notes:
The 2013 Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon jumps out from the glass. Immense amounts of blackberry, blueberry pie and rich chocolate dominate. Secondary elements of sweet char, caramel and wet earth is also apparent. This wine is round and plush with black currant, caramel and sweet chocolate on the complex palate. The tannins are fuller this year, providing a wonderful backbone to the wine which is complemented by the mountain acidity. The black currant continues on the long finish. This is an age worthy vintage, necessitating 15-16 years in the cellar or a big peppered steak in its youth (2030-2031).
