'Winemaker Adam Henkel inherited this vintage's barrels, but puts together a tasty blend, showing cracked peppercorns, obsidian-like rocks, layers of blackberry and a slight hint of green pepper. Pasilla chile opens the palate, which unfolds with boysenberry and blackberry, staying evenly balanced the entire sip." (WE)

WINEMAKING NOTES:
After hand-sorting and destemming, each variety was fermented separately with indigenous yeasts in small stainless steel tanks. Punch downs occurred twice daily. After primary fermentation was complete, the tanks were drained and pressed into 100% French oak barrels, 85% of which were new, and 15% of which was neutral. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrel. The wine was racked to blend after 12 months, and remained in barrel for a total of 20 months. Bottled unfined & unfiltered.

TASTING NOTES:
The blend for Fletcher’s Red changes every year, and the 2011 introduces Malbec into the varietal mix for the first time. Crafted in a modern, opulent style, this wine is nuanced and character driven, highlighted by the bright acid of the early-ripening Malbec, and the complex minerality of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Rich and round, the 2011 Fletcher’s will impress now, but will drink at it’s peak from 2016-2021.
