"The 2011 Chardonnay Richard Dinner Vineyard is one of the most exotic wines I have ever tasted from Sonoma. Botrytis gives the wine much of its intriguing personality. The 2011 is a wine of volume, texture and viscosity. Passion fruit, sage, crushed rocks, exotic white flowers, nuts and a hint of nutmeg all flow through to the finish. The 2011 is quite a bit fatter and richer than the 2010. In my view, this idiosyncratic Chardonnay is a stunner. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2019.

It is always fascinating to sit down with Paul Hobbs and his winemaker Megan Baccitich, as these Chardonnays and Pinots run the gamut of styles, clones and sites in Sonoma. According to Hobbs, the 2010 harvest was two weeks later than normal, while 2011 was three weeks later than normal! One of the other main differences is that temperatures increased toward the end of 2010, but stayed very much on the cool side in 2011. My impression is that when all is said and done, vintage 2011 will turn out to be superior to 2010 for this range. As always, the Hobbs house style does a very nice job of capturing both textural richness and plenty of site specificity." (WA)

"($65) Bright yellow-gold. Aromas and flavors of white peach, tangerine and poached pear, with vanilla and buttered toast accents. Broad and fleshy but lively, with a spine of zesty minerality adding lift and structure. The mineral note carries through a very long, broad, honeyed finish." (IWC)

Winery Notes:
This hillside vineyard has been a mainstay in our portfolio since 1991, the year Paul Hobbs Winery was founded. The exquisite chardonnay is lustrous dark golden straw hue and exhibits a nose of white flowers, honeydew melon and stone fruits. Richly textured and elegant, the structured palate sings with succulent flavors of orange blossom, citrus oil and Bosch pear. Notes of butterscotch, custard, white peach and Golden Delicious apple fill the mouth and lead to a seemingly unstoppable finish.
