Winery Notes:
Château de Campuget, in Costières de Nîmes, is a beautiful wine property dating back to 1640. The soil is typical for the region with lots of stones, forcing the roots deep down to find water in the lower layers of clay contributing additional character to the wine. The property is managed by Franck-Lin Dalle.

The Wine Spectator’s Report on the 2011 Vintage:
The Verdict: The 2011 harvest has most Rhône vintners exceedingly optimistic for a third straight outstanding year, though a handful rued some late rains and heat that blemished what could have been a perfect growing season. As with most French wine regions in 2011, the Rhône’s growing season was marked by a very warm and dry spring, which led vineyards to shoot out at a rapid pace. July was cold but the heat returned in August, however, leading to some shriveled berries and stalled ripening. Luckily, early-September rains helped cool off the vineyards before a long Indian summer ran through October, allowing the grapes to ripen fully.

This wine is made by draining off the vat. Its color is obtained through a short maceration between 4 and 12 hours, according to the sort of grape. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks with the temperature controlled at 64°F in order to extract the maximum aromas. After racking and filtration, the wine is immediately bottled at the Château. Its color is an intense peony pink. Its bouquet is very aromatic, exhaling scents of small red fruits such as raspberries or blackcurrants. In the mouth there is a perfect balance between vivacity and mellowness. The final taste is very long, leaving a delicate impression of fruitiness.

To fully enjoy its aromatic and fruity character this wine should be drunk in the year following its harvest. Served at 57°F, it is perfect for summertime meals, with fresh salads or around a barbecue. We recommend you drink this when you just want to have fun!
