4. 2011 Beckmen Vineyards, “Grenache Rosé, Purisma Mountain Vineyard,” Santa Ynez Valley ($18) – Medium- light copper color; attractive, floral, cherry and strawberry fruit aroma with spicy notes; medium to medium-full body; fairly rich, forward, cherry, red berry, and stone fruit flavors with a hint of pepper; crisp finish; lingering aftertaste. Very highly recommended. 13.9% alcohol; 725 cases; blended with 7% Mourvèdre, 7% Counoise, and 4% Syrah; released Spring 2012. (Group Score: 16.1, 1/1/0; My Score: 17 [90/100], fifth place)(CAGV)

Winery Notes:
Most wineries make rosés as a byproduct of bleeding off juice to increase concentration in red wines. Not at Beckmen. Our rosé is made using special blocks farmed specifically for this wine and picked earlier. As a result, our rosé offers freshness and acidity with bright flavors at a lower alcohol level. Blending Grenache with Syrah, Mourvédre and Counoise makes it Tavel-like in its complexity, with layers of cherry, orange, watermelon and rose petals.
