2014 WINE SPECTATOR TOP 100: #62

"The polished texture carries crisp flavors of tart cherry, fresh herb, anise and mineral, supported by light, firm tannins and lively acidity. Graceful, with balanced fruity and savory notes that give way to a spicy, floral finish. Drink now through 2022. 103,700 cases made. –TM " (WS)

"Raspberry, plum and cherry aromas are light, pure and fully inviting, with nothing off-putting. This tastes bright and balanced, with cherry and berry flavors that are impossible not to like. A dash of oaky cocoa blends with leftover red fruit flavors on a nice finish." (WE)

Winery Notes:
“Viña Cumbrero wines offer an amazing Rioja quality value. A remarkable Rioja style, the elaboration produces well crafted wines that are elegantly complex and exquisitely proportioned for classic Spanish wine lovers."

D.O.Ca Rioja, located in Spain's cool North, with variations in altitude, chalky clay soils, plenty of rain and long springs and autumns.

Spanish indigenous Tempranillo grape, from La Rioja Alta, perfect for elegant, long aging wines.

Red garnet color. Clean and brilliant.

Aromatic Notes:
Spicy aromas, mingled with ripe fruit notes.

Excellent structure, lively acidity displays plenty of red fruit rounded with soft tannins. Pleasant and elegant aftertaste.

Ideal companion for meals. This wine enhances the flavors of stews, barbeques, and all kind of meats - especially grilled meats. Best enjoyed at 18ºC/64ºF.

Fermentation at a constant temperature of 26-28ºC/78-82ºF, followed by a maceration period with the skins. The second fermentation takes place spontaneously in underground tanks after the wine is transferred to handcrafted oak casks, where it is aged for a minimum of 12 months. The wine stays in its bottle for a longer period of time before its release so that it can be enjoyed at its best.
