50% Syrah and 50% Sangiovese

"(a 50/50 blend of syrah and sangiovese, co-fermented): Full red-ruby. Rather subdued aromas of medicinal black cherry and chocolatey oak. Plush but distinctly dry, offering concentrated flavors of dark berries and mint. Finishes with substantial building tannins that reach the front teeth. Comes across as austere following the Stolpman syrah bottlings. " (IWC)

""La Croce" is quite simply a piece all its own, and a most handsome and unique piece it is. It leads with fascinating aromas of blackberries, pepper, hints of game and a wisp of dried flowers and follows suit on the palate with wonderfully pure and persistent themes of berries and spice. It is fairly big-bodied but never seems at all heavy, and it is long, energetic and impeccably balanced with tailored tannins lending just the right bit of finishing grip. Wait on it for at least another three or four years, but it is a wine that is guaranteed to reward long-term keeping. It may have an unusual cepage, but it has yielded a true tour de force.
