"Tightly wound yet richly structured, offering boysenberry and spiced anise aromas, with deep, crisp plum, dill and earthy mineral flavors that finish with big, ripe tannins. Best from 2014 through 2018. 1,250 cases made." (WS)

"Open, nicely fruity, enriched by creamy oak and just plain easy to drink in a somewhat direct and entirely likeable way, Ridge's Ponzo bottling is a great example of straightahead Zinfandel. If it is less complex than its pricier partners in the Ridge lineup, it is also so precise in its "pure" berryish fruit that it offers a brilliantly clear look at the variety's personality. Moderate in its tannins but not without enough grip to work with most pork or pasta dishes, it does not want a lot of cellar time but is sure to reward it nonetheless. Reviewed: January 2013" (CG)

Winery Notes:
Bob Ponzo has farmed these grapes for us in the Russian River Valley since 1999. Bob's vineyard, on deep gravely loam soils four and a half miles south of Lytton Springs, provides all of the fruit for this zinfandel. The Russian River Valley's cooler microclimate ripens this fruit shortly after Lytton Springs and Geyserville. Small amounts of petite sirah are interplanted with zinfandel in the oldest block.

Raspberries, rose petal and pepper on the nose. Medium to full bodied. Soft and elegant on the palate, with a fine tannin structure. Finishing with firm acidity and delicious cherry fruit.
