Winery Notes:
In the Dry Creek Valley, Zin is king. Sultry summer days moderated by cool nights produce the perfect environment for the grape to thrive. But Zinfandel can also be a troublemaker, become a bit boisterous unless tamed by a skilled winemaker who understands how to control its unruly side. In 2010, it may have been a bit more mischievous than usual, the result of a cool summer and a hot September. After discarding clusters that suffered raisining from the heat, what was left was fruit that was wonderfully mature.

The rich hue of the 2010 leaves the impression that this is going to be a big powerful Zin. But you quickly discover the wine is well-behaved. A brambly, berry-driven Zinfandel that delivers not only classic Dry Creek flavors of raspberries, but also wonderful boysenberry and plum notes accented by a good dose of baking spices and just a touch of oak. While it would work well with just about any grilled meat, it has a particular affinity for barbecue.
