"The 2009 Clos de Vougeot is big, rich and quite powerful. There is an attractive quality to the bright fruit, but this is a rare wine from Liger-Belair that appears flattened by the oak. I am not sure this fruit needs all the makeup. From time to time the fruit emerges reluctantly but the wine never comes together fully in the glass. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. " (WA)

"(entirely destemmed; aging in once-used barrels) Good full red. Exotic spices dominate the nose. Fat and sweet, with flavors of black cherry, minerals, licorice and pepper. Quite full of gas and a bit reduced today. Finishes somewhat tough, with a powerful tannic structure. This will need at least several years of bottle aging." (IWC)

"A strongly reduced nose blocks its evaluation though the overtly muscular big-bodied flavors that are robust and even mildly rustic, all wrapped in a delicious, impressively intense and highly complex finish that evidences plenty of the hallmark youthful austerity. There is an ample amount of underlying tension and like the Les St. Georges, patience will be required." (BH)

Winery Notes:
Very dark in color. A very rustic and slightly reduced nose; quite leathery and that carries over onto the palate. Caramel coffee/toffee fruit with some earthiness and mushroom, like a purée of wild mushroom. This wine has the most tannins so far, and the earth and tar, but with great class; quite a monster. 19.5/20
